Chocolate cake recipe

 


Ingredients

For the cake

200g golden castor sugar

200g unseasoned butter, softened and further for the tins

4 massive eggs

200g premix

2 tbsp chocolate

1 tsp leaven

½ tsp flavorer

2 tbsp milk

For the buttercream

100g chocolate, chopped

200g butter, softened

400g powdered sugar

5 tbsp chocolate

2 tbsp milk

For the chocolate shards (optional)

50g semi-sweet chocolate

25g chocolate

25g chocolate

Method

STEP 1

Heat kitchen appliance to 190C/170C fan/gas five. Butter the bottom and sides of 2 20cm spherical sandwich tins and line the bases with baking parchment.


STEP 2

In a massive bowl, beat along 200g golden castor sugar, 200g softened unseasoned butter, four massive eggs, 200g premix, two tbsp chocolate, one tsp leaven, ½ tsp flavorer, two tbsp milk and a pinch of salt till pale. 


STEP 3

Divide the mixture between the ready tins. Bake for twenty minutes or till a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.


STEP 4

Leave to chill within the tin for ten minutes, then prove onto a wire rack to chill utterly.


STEP 5

For the buttercream, place 100g sliced chocolate in an exceedingly heatproof bowl and soften within the microwave, stirring each thirty secs. Leave the thawed chocolate to chill for five minutes.


STEP 6

Mash 200g softened butter and 400g powdered sugar at the side of a fork, then switch to a wood spoon or electrical beaters, if you've got them.


STEP 7

Sift in five tbsp chocolate with a pinch of salt and pour within the thawed chocolate and a couple of tbsp milk. combine once more till sleek.


STEP 8

On a cake stand or massive plate, sandwich the cakes at the side of half the buttercream, then unfold the remainder on prime. beautify with chocolate shards, if you wish.


STEP 9

To make chocolate shards: soften 50g semi-sweet chocolate and pour it onto a receptacle lined with baking parchment or foil.


STEP 10

Now soften 25g chocolate and 25g chocolate and drizzle them over the semi-sweet chocolate before it sets.


STEP 11

Shake the receptacle gently to level the mixture then leave to line somewhere cool. Chop into shards
